One important thing that most people do not consider is eating their food uncooked. Unfortunately we are aware that over 90% of the foods purchased by Americans are processed foods and when we are selecting and choosing these types of foods it is no wonder that we are having epidemic and chronic diseases; that is exactly what you would expect. So ideally we are going to want to have unprocessed foods; typically organically, biodynamicaly and locally harvested foods. But even if you chose those foods the challenge is that if you cook them then you destroy most of the nutrition in them, therefore it is ideally to strive to have ample amounts of raw foods in your diet.

This is due to the fact that our if we get enough sunlight our bodies make vitamin D naturally. It can be concluded that participants with better physical function had higher vitamin D simply because they were outside more often. As Houston points out: “Current dietary recommendations are based primarily on vitamin D’s effects on bone health. It is possible that higher amounts of vitamin D are needed for the preservation of muscle strength and physical function as well as other health conditions. However, clinical trials are needed to definitively determine whether increasing 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations through diet or supplements has an effect on these non-traditional outcomes.”
