A study published in the “Pediatrics” the official journal of the American Association of Pediatrics shows that late introduction of solid foods during infancy is directly related to the likelihood a food or inhalant sensitivity develops by age 5. The study involved 994 children with susceptibility to type 1 diabetes for whom information on breastfeeding, age at the introduction of solid foods, and allergen-specific immunoglobulin E levels at 5 years was available (using data from The Finnish Type 1 Diabetes Prediction and Prevention Nutrition Study).
