Chiropractic is a health care discipline grounded in holistic and complimentary alternative medicine (CAM) that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, to affect general health via the nervous system. Traditional chiropractic assumes that a vertebral subluxation or spinal joint dysfunction interferes with the body’s function and its innate intelligence to heal itself. Chiropractic physicians believe in removing this interference from the nervous system through manipulation of the spine, muscles, joints and tissue by hand. Chiropractic care subsequently allows each bodily system to properly communicate with the brain and in many cases allows the body to heal itself. Chiropractors study the biomechanics, structure and function of the spine, along with the effects on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and their critical role in improving health and deterring disease.
Chiropractic philosophy includes the following perspectives:
Holism assumes that health is affected by everything in an individual’s environment; some
sources also include a spiritual or existential dimension.
Conservatism considers the risks of clinical interventions when balancing them against their benefits. It emphasizes noninvasive treatment to minimize risk, and uses surgery and medication as a last resort.
Homeostatis emphasizes the body’s inherent self-healing abilities.
Chiropractors are often seen as the pioneers in holistic health care as they look to address disease without the use of traditional pharmaceuticals, prescription drugs or other types of chemicals.
What is the BioVeda Philosophy?
Like traditional chiropractors, the physicians at BioVeda Health and Wellness Centers believe in removing interference from the body, thereby alleviating stress on the nervous system and restoring balance to the body. Using an integrative approach to wellness, chiropractic care is utilized to help the body heal itself and maintain its balance.
BioVeda physicians take a multidimensional, integrative approach and believe that in addition to correcting interference through spinal adjustments, a program that incorporates alternative medical techniques such as neurological stress reduction therapy (NSRT), exercise, massage, nutritional supplements and homeopathic remedies help in achieving a long-term state of optimal health. The BioVeda approach is about identifying the underlying cause of the disease, symptom or condition affecting the individual and providing the appropriate care to alleviate or eliminate the cause of the patient’s suffering from numerous types of chronic and system issues and then work to achieve long-term wellness. Our diagnostic and treatment approaches stem from osteopathic, medical, and chiropractic viewpoints. The BioVeda approach is about identifying the underlying cause of the disease, symptom or condition and providing the appropriate care to alleviate or eliminate the cause of the patient’s suffering.
BioVeda Health and Wellness Centers treat the patient with the disease or condition and not the disease that has the patient. Our approach to wellness incorporates the best of modern technology with eastern medical techniques that date back thousands of years. This is a dramatic departure from traditional medicine and western medical models that tend to prescribe drugs to mask or alleviate symptoms rather than dealing with what’s truly causing the symptoms.
Chiropractic Care (Scope)
“Chiropractic” comes from the Greek word “Chiropraktikos”, meaning “effective treatment by hand”. Chiropractic philosophy is rooted in the belief that the cause of many diseases begins with the body’s inability to adapt to substances, stressors and even emotional forces at play in each individual’s environment.
Chiropractors emphasize the conservative management of the neuromusculoskeletal system without the use of medicines or surgery with special emphasis on the spine. Our practice of chiropractic medicine involves a range of diagnostic methods including skeletal imaging, observational and tactile assessments, and orthopedic and neurological evaluation. Common patient management involves spinal manipulation and other manual therapies to the joints and soft tissues, rehabilitative exercises, health promotion, electrical modalities, complementary procedures, and lifestyle counseling.
What makes chiropractic care unique is the examination of the spine to evaluate body function. The spinal column which starts at the base of the skull and extends through the center of the hips is comprised of a series of movable bones often referred to as vertebrae and disks. The spinal column also includes the spinal cord and thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves that extend from the spine to the brain. The nerves leave the spine and form a complicated path of sensory receptors that extend throughout the entire body transferring information on everything that happens in an individual’s environment back to the brain for interpretation. The brain then formulates a response, and sends messages back to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, organs, and every tissue and cell to orchestrate and maintain normal homeostatic control, i.e. optimal health. These nerves influence every living tissue and cell in the body which is what makes Chiropractic care so beneficial.
Chiropractic care can be used to aid and relieve many symptoms and conditions, including but not limited to the following:
- Neck & Back Pain
- Joint and Muscle Pain
- Carpal Tunnel and Neuropathy or Radiculotherapy
- Hip Pain
- Muscle Tightness and Stiffness
- Neck Pain
- Shoulder Pain
- Sports Injuries
